Hailing from the same sonic territory as Sufjan Stevens and former tour mates the Decemberists, Loch Lomond make orchestral pop that balances indie folk melody with an expansive palette of instruments and timbres. The band's music centers around the haunting yelp of lead singer Ritchie Young, backed by mandoling, clarinet, banjo and piano to build landscapes fitting of Young's aching melodies. With a plaintive hopefulness, Loch Lomond make heartbreaking folk-pop whose aims befit the wide bevy of instruments they use to make music, and with a 2nd LP on the way, one can only assume that they will set their sights even higher.
