YOKO ONO PLASTIC ONO BAND (WITH CORNELIUS, YUKA HONDA, SEAN LENNON)
YOKO ONO PLASTIC ONO BAND (with Cornelius, Yuka Honda, Sean Lennon)
Before meeting John Lennon, Yoko Ono was already deeply immersed and well known in the avant-garde scene of 1960's Greenwich Village. An experimental force, Ono has challenged the status quo with uncompromising music and film work, and her legacy lives on past any controversy that may once have surrounded her.
The first incarnation of the Yoko Ono Plastic Ono Band dates back to 1969, the year she formed the group with Lennon and released the song "Give Peace a Chance." That single is still a widely known and loved piece encompassing all that Ono has come to represent in her 40 plus years as a performer.
2009 saw the return of the Plastic Ono Band, the first release from the project since 1973. The new album, Between My Head and the Sky, is constructed out of Ono's brilliantly off beat and energetic sound. The latest incarnation of the project features a lineup of Ono's son Sean Lennon, Japanese band Cornelius and Yuka Honda of Cibo Matto. All of these musicians are, in their own right, exceptional songwriters and artists. With Ono's legendary presence leading the way, the Plastic Ono Band sounds as relevant and remarkable as it did decades ago.
