It's hard to be more entrenched in the Bay Area music scene than Dave Smallen. Formerly of local pop-punk outfit, Street To Nowhere, Smallen ventured off as a solo artist in 2008, and has since recorded and self-released a series of singles and a 2009 LP, collaborating with a virtual roll call of Bay Area musicians, including Anton Patzner (Judgement Day), Michael Knox (Audrye Sessions), and Anticon's Zac Rae (Pedestrian). Even as a solo artist, Smallen's work contains a bit more growl than the usual singer-songwriter—perhaps a nod to his punk past.
