The Submarines are a two-piece couple band from Los Angeles by way of Boston. Well, more truthfully, The Submarines are an ex-couple band. Blake Hazard and John Dragonetti have been making music separately for a number of years. Blake worked at the legendary Fort Apache Studio, releasing albums on Kimchee Records and touring with the likes of Evan Dando. At the same time John was recording under the name Jackdrag for labels like HepCat and A&M. The two of them got together, collaborating musically first and then becoming a couple. Four years later, after relocating to LA Blake and John broke up but soon reunited musically under the banner of The Submarines. The results are the achingly gorgeous sad songs that comprise their soon to be released album Declare A New State!. - Shroomer McGinty |
